Learning to Do Without

The Camino implies austerity, to do without many things which in our normal lives would seem impossible to give up. We rely on so much! It does not make much sense to face a pilgrimage, --sacrifice, effort-- if we carry a backpack filled up like a shopping cart. We must learn to walk lightly, get used to having few things, and carry our bags almost empty.

Anyway, the Camino will take it upon itself to remind you the first chance it gets.

Also be austere in your expenses. Share what you have with other pilgrims, help take care of the refuges, which is to say, leave a donation because they don’t live off air.
