This is a new program that is being put into place this year, 2004, as a result of an experience last year. This program is about volunteers that go to several places on the Camino to help in the pastoral outreach with pilgrims. They work in parishes or other church organizations offering pilgrims the opportunity to pray individually or with groups, keeping churches open for pilgrims or helping at pilgrim masses through interpreting to different languages, leading singing, etc.
The volunteers do not work specifically with the refuges, although they frequently lend a hand or help out in some way. Anyone who is interested in doing this work may volunteer. You do not have to have done the pilgrimage to Santiago, although it is better if you have done so. It is helpful if you have a Christian background and, if possible, speak several languages.
